You may have already heard the bittersweet news the Swedish American Museum announced yesterday.
If not, it looks like the sun has set on the water tower. We’re getting a replica:
“The next chapter in the history of the Andersonville Water Tower is still being written. The Swedish American Museum, along with supporters and community partners, is working to raise $150,000 that is needed to recreate this valued neighborhood symbol.
Clearly, it will no longer be a functioning water tower but will serve as a landmark for the area, and a link both to Swedish heritage and to the architectural history of Chicago. It will need to maintain the form and spirit of the original tank” – Swedish American Museum
You can read the full announcement about the water tank’s rebirth here.
It looks like the parking lot will be open this afternoon if you want to get one last picture in before she gets sent to the scrap yard.
Thanks for tipping us off to the news Kim (Edgewater Glen Neighbor).
