Care for Real Toy Drive: Give to Local Kids, Get Local Rewards
Care for Real is not just Edgewater’s food pantry. Throughout the year they also provide clothing, school supplies, career counseling, and other services to local families in need, and around the holidays Care for Real distributes toys and gifts for the children of those families.
Last year Care for Real provided gifts for more than 800 children. They were able to do so because of generous toy drive donations of new, unwrapped toys, and we hope we can count on the community to support them again.
This year the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce has announced that several local businesses will be giving rewards to people who drop off donations for the Care for Real toy drive.
Starting on Saturday, November 22nd (Andersonville’s St. Morten’s Gos Day celebration), you can drop off toy drive donations at these locations and get the specified reward:
- Drop off a toy at The Coffee Studio, 5628 N. Clark, and get a free gingerbread man.
- Drop off a toy at George’s Ice Cream & Sweets, 5306 N. Clark, and get a free scoop of ice cream.
- Drop off a toy at Foursided Custom Framing Gallery, 5061 N. Clark, and get a free greeting card.
If you prefer that the reward go to the kids, for each toy you buy and leave as a donation at Toys Et Cetera, 5311 N. Clark, the store will donate another new toy to the Care for Real drive.
If you don’t need a reward other than knowing you are helping make a kid’s holiday a bit nicer, you can also drop off toys at the 48 Ward office at 5533 N. Broadway during their regular business hours.
Although we like the idea of both shopping and giving locally, we know that this time of year can be busy, so another option for giving is this Amazon wish list, which ships directly to Care for Real. The wish list is geared toward gifts appropriate for teens since last year 35% of Care for Real’s toy drive gift recipients were kids ages 13-17, yet teen appropriate gifts tend to be underrepresented in donations.
Toy drive donations are being collected until December 15th. Toys and gifts should be new and unwrapped.
