News from the 48th Ward: Whole Foods Update
In case you missed the announcement from Alderman Harry Osterman this morning…
“Our community has eagerly awaited the arrival of Whole Foods Market, coming to 6001 N. Broadway. I have some exciting updates to share. Whole Foods Market will open on Wednesday, April 29 at 8:00am.
The store has been gutted and completely rehabbed from within, about a $10 million project. With décor inspired by early 1900’s Chicago, Whole Foods Market Edgewater will offer shoppers a wood fired grill venue, made-in-house naan bread, in-house smoked meats and seafood, Neapolitan-style pizzas, and made-in-house sushi. This location will also feature a Red Star Bar, a wine bar, a coffee bar and juice bar.
Whole Foods Market highly values community partnerships and giving back to the local community. The Edgewater store will have a full-time community relations manager. I met with the Whole Foods Market Edgewater Leadership last week and am looking forward to the partnerships and programming that will result from Whole Food’s presence in our community. During the Edgewater store’s first week, 5 non-profit organizations will benefit from 1% of the net-sales on a given day: Friends of Senn High School, Peterson Garden Project, Felines & Canines, Lakeside Pride Music Ensembles and Jackalope Theater. Daily Food donations will go to Care for Real & Vital Bridges.
Prior to their April 29th opening, Whole Foods will host a Community BBQ on Saturday, April 18. This special event will be coupled with the annual 48th Ward Clean & Green. Please see full details below and we hope you can join us for both events!”
