Want to avoid the waitlist? It is almost time to sign up for our neighborhood’s community garden. New gardener registration starts February 1st, 2016. Garden plots are assigned on a first-come-first-served basis so sign-up early.
Neighbors interested in gardening with Peterson Garden Project do not need any prior gardening experience. Their mission is to teach people how to grow their own food, so they are looking to recruit ‘grewbies’ (people new to growing food).
Membership is $85 and includes education, events, some supplies and a 4×8 garden plot in one of their organic Pop-up Victory Garden locations.
If you would like to help our neighbors in need, Grow2Give™ is their volunteer-run program providing fresh produce donations from at least five percent of garden harvests from each Peterson Garden Project site. The donations go to local food pantries or nutrition programs chosen by the community. The program addresses food security issues by introducing vulnerable populations to fresh produce. Volunteers grew nearly two tons of food for local pantries and nutrition programs in its first four years.
Proceeds from our Vedgewater community garden help support Care for Real’s mission of helping our neighbors in need.
